Sri Lanka: Wilpaththu Safari

On our first full day in Sri Lanka, we went on a safari.  This was my first ever safari, and I absolutely loved it!  We sat in a jeep with open sides and rolled through 4 hours worth of beautiful terrain.

The animals we saw definitely brought a lot of excitement, but we were just as ecstatic about the clean air and blue skies!  Living in Jakarta makes one appreciate things that were once taken for granted 🙂

Throughout our trip we saw lots of peacocks, eagles, beautiful turquoise-colored birds (one of my personal favorites), monkeys, a sloth bear, deer, a leopard, crocodiles, an iguana, a mongoose, a golden jackal, and many more animals!  We finished our ride around the time that the sun was setting, and the warm colors made everything simply breath-taking.

On our way out of the park we ended things off with a turtle trying to cross the street.  Rachel saved him, and we named him Peter.*  Here is just a small selection of the beauty that we saw!**

*We also named every other animal we came across, but weren’t quite as attached 🙂

**A huge thank you to Jon, Janna, and Rachel for allowing me to use their pictures, and a special shout out to Jon for taking some unbelievable photos of the animals!
