I can’t believe that the semester has already come to an end! This year has flown by, seemingly with every moment full of craziness and work and fun. Our grade 7 class closed out the semester with a whole-grade-level party to celebrate Christmas and the closing of their first semester in Senior School.
One of my students made me laugh during the party when he half asked and half stated, “That new camera has changed your life Ms. Lauren, hasn’t it?” Admittedly, I have been taking a lot of pictures 🙂
We started off the party with (a lot of!) food and a picture slideshow of Grade 7 this year so far, followed by a gift exchange. Michaela read a version of the Christmas story that included a lot of “lefts” and “rights” (as in, “Mary and Joseph left their home right away :)), and the kids all sat in a circle and passed the gift that they were holding every time they heard a directional word.
Then, we played a whole series of minute-to-win it games, including:
Pom Pom Nose-ing
Rubber Band Straw-ing
Forehead Cookie Stacking
It was a battle between the 5 homerooms, and 7.3 came out on top! They always make me proud with the way that they work as a team and encourage one another, and they make things interesting because they are all so (loudly!) invested!
Finally, we finished out the party with the VeggieTales movie The Toy that Saved Christmas. It made my day! I am so thankful for a great first semester with great students and an unbelievable group of teachers to work with!
